Jenkins studied stage design, which led him into the development and planning of Six Flags Over Texas, where he was vice president of entertainment and new projects, and participated in the development of the original three Six Flags parks.  He studied architecture under Ray Holbein, a student of Frank Lloyd Wright.

Jenkins co-produced the CBS national telecast of the Miss Teenage America Pageant for six years and produced the President John F. Kennedy Commemorative Event in Dallas, Texas, on November 22, 2013. 

Jenkins is president and founder of Leisure and Recreation Concepts (LARC), a design and consulting firm for the entertainment industry that includes theme parks, water parks, special event productions, and a variety of other attractions.  LARC has worked on more than 1,100 projects in its 46-year history and maintains one of the largest amusement and entertainment libraries, and its research department studies trends in the entertainment and theatre industries, in addition to planning, design, and management. Jenkins completed a two-year term as President of the National Alliance for Musical Theatre and continues to serve on the Board of Directors.  He serves on the Board of Troika Entertainment (owned by the Nederlander Organization).  He is a participating member of The Broadway League and the Independent Presenters Network.  Jenkins is on a number of civic boards including the American Heart Association (past-chairman) and Variety Club of North Texas.  He serves on the Board Of Theatre Three (Dallas, TX). He serves on the Board of Advisors for Baylor University’s School of Arts and Sciences.  He has been an advisor to the Dallas Cowboys and other major corporations.

By popular demand, Jenkins authored a book, Playbills and Popcorn, which is a collection of stories from travel, tourism and theater.  Because of his commitment, dedication and involvement in projects around the globe, he is one of American Airlines’ most frequent travelers.

The theatre has always been Michael Jenkins’s first love, starting as an usher at the age of 14 working under his mentor, Charles R. Meeker, Jr., at the Music Hall at Fair Park in Dallas, Texas. Michael's philosophy is that “show business” is about being creative and putting on the show but also running the show as a “business.”
